The chair of Azerbaijan geography
The chair of Azerbaijan geography within the structure of the geography faculty was established in 2007. The teaching team of the new chair was formed on the basis of human resources profile and scientific specialization. Prof. V.A. Afandiyev, Doctor of geographic sciences, holding the position of pro-rector for teaching affairs, heads up the chair.
Prof. V.A. Afandiyev is the author of about 100 scientific articles, textbooks and monographs dedicated to a series of important issues and problems of economic and social geography, in particular to population settling and urbanization problems. His scientific articles were published in periodicals of the geography faculty of BSU, ANAS, NLU and digests of republic and international scientific conferences.
Prof. V.A.Afandiyev is the author of the first monumental book “Population geography” published in Azerbaijan and Russian languages for geography faculties of universities, 5 monographs (including one monograph published overseas), 5 teaching aids and programs.
Currently the chair’s team with his participation and under his leadership is working at a textbook entitled “Economic and social geography of Azerbaijan” designed for geography faculties of universities.
In addition to that, V.A. Afandiyev is the author of the textbook entitled “Geography of the Turkic world” taught for the first time in the 11th grade of Azerbaijan’s secondary schools. Under the leadership of Prof. V.A. Afandiyev 18 undergraduates and candidate for a degree defended their theses. Currently one candidate for a degree and 2 postgraduate students from the Islamic Republic of Iran are working at their theses under his leadership. Prof. V.A.Afandiyev is a member of the Defense Council under the ANAS Geography Institute, BSU’s Great Scientific Council, Head Editors Council of “Khabarlar” journal of the Baku University.
